Anxiety, Meet Your Match:

3 Free, At-Home Tools to Stop Anxiety in its tracks

Steph MacLeod here! Your go to Breathwork girlie, no BS, give it to ya straight… okay a maybe with a tiny sprinkle of woo.

We allllll ride the anxiety struggle bus in some way, shape or form. So let's dive deeper into those three free, at-home tools for soothing anxiety because, honey, self-care is not just a luxury—it's a necessity.

1 - Fresh Air (you’ll never go on a walk, come home and say… “damn I wish I didn’t go”

So there you have it, my loves. Three free, at-home tools for soothing anxiety and reclaiming your peace of mind. Embrace them, cherish them, and let them be your guiding stars on this journey called life 😘

Picture this: I used to wake up each morning feeling like I was wrestling a pack of wild thoughts before I even got out of bed. Anxiety was my unwelcome roommate, crashing on my mental couch and refusing to leave. But then, one day, I decided enough was enough. I laced up my sneakers and hit the pavement for a brisk walk. And you know what? It was like hitting the reset button on my brain.

Here's the science behind it: When you're out in the fresh air, your body is like a sponge, soaking up all those negative ions like they're little drops of liquid gold. These negative ions work wonders on your brain, boosting levels of serotonin (the feel-good hormone) and reducing levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). It's like giving your brain a big, warm hug from the inside out.

As I walked, I could almost feel the stress melting away with each breath of fresh air. The rhythm of my feet pounding the pavement became a soothing mantra, drowning out the cacophony of anxious thoughts. Before I knew it, my morning walks had become my non-negotiable for mental health.

And the result? My anxiety went from a roaring lion to a purring kitten, thanks to the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and letting nature work its magic. So if you're feeling overwhelmed by the weight of the world, just step outside, take a deep breath, and let the fresh air be your guide back to peace and tranquility.

2 - Water and Sunlight (and no, you aren’t a plant)

Our bodies are indeed as fragile as the petals of a flower, craving hydration and sunlight to flourish. Think of it as giving your inner garden a good watering. So, grab that glass of water and drink up, my friend. Let each sip quench not only your thirst but also your worries, as the cool liquid washes away tension and rejuvenates your spirit.

And when the sun decides to play hide-and-seek behind a blanket of clouds (I'm looking at you, Canadian winters), fear not! That's where our trusty sun lamp swoops in to save the day. Take it from me—I invested in one and placed it smack dab in the heart of my home, the kitchen. It became my sunshine oasis, radiating warmth and light with every flick of the switch.

Let me tell you a little secret: as I went about my daily routine—refilling my water, whipping up breakfast, or tackling the never-ending pile of dishes—I was also soaking up some much-needed vitamin D. And guess what? My fiancé, the epitome of chillness, even noticed a change in himself. That's right, the most zen dude I know was basking in the glow of our little sunbeam, feeling lighter and brighter with each passing day.

3 - Breathe (in a really specific way)

QUEEN OF BREATHWORK over here🙋🏼‍♀️

Breathwork is the crown jewel of this anxiety-crushing trio. It’s the fastest and easiest way to release anxiety from your body. It’s free…. and you can do it anytime, anywhere. Here's the science behind the magic: when you engage in deep, intentional breathing, you're not just oxygenating your body—you're also sending a powerful message to your brain. You see, deep breathing triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the "rest and digest" mode. This, in turn, signals to your brain that it's safe to relax and unwind, lowering levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and promoting feelings of calm and tranquility.
